ISO 14064 Greenhouse Gas Calculation and Verification Management System standards are prepared in three sections:

  • ISO 14064-1 standard

This standard describes the general principles of designing, developing, reporting and managing greenhouse gas inventories at company level. The principles and conditions described in this section are related to the determination of emission limits for the purpose of improving the greenhouse gas management of the companies, the measurement of the emission amount and the measures to be taken or actions to be taken for the proper management of greenhouse gases.

This section also covers the requirements for quality management, reporting, internal audits of the greenhouse gas inventory and the obligations of the company for verification.

  • ISO 14064-2 standard

This standard describes greenhouse gas projects or project-based activities specifically designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It also covers the principles and conditions for determining the reference scenarios of these projects and monitoring, evaluating and reporting the performance of the projects as compared to these identified references. In this way, a basis for measuring, evaluating and verifying greenhouse gas projects has been established.

  • ISO 14064-3 standard

This standard contains guidelines, requirements and guidelines for organizations that will assess and verify the company's greenhouse gas information. It also describes validation or verification processes for greenhouse gas, validation or verification planning, evaluation procedures, and evaluation of the company or project's greenhouse gas declarations.

As a result, with the application of all three sub-standards, the standards will be calculated correctly and the emissions will be calculated correctly, greenhouse gas emissions will be managed strategically and effectively, and ease of implementation and development of greenhouse gas projects will be ensured. Consistency and transparency will increase in greenhouse gas calculation and reporting.

Companies will calculate greenhouse gas emissions in three different scopes based on their approach:

  • Direct greenhouse gas emissions: Greenhouse gas emissions from sources controlled by the company.
  • Energy indirect greenhouse gas emissions: Greenhouse gas emissions from electricity or heat generated by the company's external procurement.
  • Other indirect greenhouse gas emissions: Greenhouse gas emissions from other company sources outside the company's control.

Organizations wishing to obtain the ISO 14064 Greenhouse Gas Calculation and Verification Management System Certificate can contact the experienced managers and employees of the TURCERT certification body for information on the standards and scope of the system.
