Good Agricultural Practices certification activities and GLOBALGAP certification activities are very parallel with each other. In order to have both documents, generally the same conditions must be met. However, in terms of their functions, they are separated from each other.

Good Agricultural Practices The idea was first put forward in the European Union countries in 1997. The retailer companies operating here met the ever-increasing nutritional need, increasing nutritional habits and increasing food production as a danger for human health and the environment, and established the European Retailers Product Working Group (Euro Retailer Producer Group). , EUREP). These retailers are large retailers holding three-quarters of the fresh fruit and vegetable market in the European Union. As a result of their joint efforts, they published the Protocol on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) to meet consumers' demand for reliable food. This protocol sets out the minimum internationally recognized requirements in agricultural production.

The European Retailers Product Working Group later established the EUREPGAP Technical and Standards Committee in 2001. This committee has set criteria to control the compliance of agricultural products with the rules of the protocol and to carry out certification procedures and has initiated Good Agricultural Practices certification procedures.

As soon as these studies were spread across the world in a short period of time and when each country established the GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) principles, EUREPGAP changed its name to GLOBALGAP in 2007.

Today's Good Agricultural Practices certification studies on the other hand GLOBALGAP certification work is also done. As mentioned above, both certification systems are based on the same criteria. But GLOBALGAP Certificateis a document that organizations want to have in international markets. This document is sought as a prerequisite for exporting companies that send fresh fruits and vegetables to European Union countries. On the other hand, Good Agricultural Practices Certificate is a document that organizations want to have in domestic markets.

Today to ensure application integrity, Good Agricultural Practices Certificate and GLOBALGAP Certificate are made in a single document. These studies are carried out by the Good Agricultural Practices Committee established within the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
