To meet the needs of consumers, the days when only the production of goods and services were sufficient. For a long time, products and services have been mentioned that prioritize customer expectations at the highest level. Today, quality is accepted as a measure to ensure this satisfaction. Quality is now a key condition to be able to compete and succeed in global markets. So quality is a topic that is more spoken today.

As such, quality procedures come to the fore and emphasis is placed on its implementation. The most important of these procedures is the ISO 9001 Corrective and Preventive Activities Procedure.

If non-conformities are found in a company and where there is a possibility of occurrence, a number of studies have to be carried out in order to reveal the causes of these problems, to eliminate these reasons and to prevent the repetition of these situations. The procedure for determining, planning, initiating and ensuring the effectiveness of these works is the Corrective and Preventive Activities Procedure.

Nonconformities or problems may arise on an issue that is contrary to the quality policy and objectives of the enterprise or may be due to external conditions such as legal regulations.

Corrective actions are intended to address the problems that arise during the production of products and services. Preventive actions are aimed at identifying and preventing future situations.

In general, corrective and preventive actions are initiated:

  • Customer complaints
  • Depending on survey work
  • As a result of internal and external inspections
  • With the decisions taken at the management review meetings
  • According to the results of business processes monitoring and measurement
  • With the determination of employees during the application

During corrective and preventive actions, identified nonconformities, disruptions or customer complaints are reviewed, reasons are investigated and corrective actions are planned to prevent repetition.

If corrective and preventive actions involve different units in the enterprise, this situation is shared and acted together.

These activities are monitored collectively in the periods determined by the company and the results are analyzed.

The studies are carried out by using generally determined forms. The forms used by businesses in this way are:

  • Corrective Action Request Form
  • Preventive Action Request Form
  • Corrective Action Follow-up Form
  • Preventive Activity Tracking Form
  • Corrective Activities Periodic Monitoring Form
  • Corrective Action Analysis Form
