The word calibration has entered our language in French. Calibration is a series of operations that establish the relationship between the values given by a measuring device or a system and the known values. When performing these operations, another device that conforms to the specifications of the calibrated device is used as reference. The error rates of the calibrated instrument are compared with those of the reference instrument, which has a much higher accuracy. To put it simply, calibration is the process of checking the accuracy of a device with another device that is much more accurate than it is.
